CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car late Saturday night on Interstate 77 in south Charlotte.

According to MEDIC, it happened around 10:30 p.m. on I-77 North at West Arrowood Road.

The pedestrian died on the scene, MEDIC said.

The highway was shut down in the area for several hours. It has since reopened.

WBTV is working to learn the name of the person who died and how this happened.
