AUSTIN — UTEP's best shot against the superior talent of No. 7 Texas never figured to be enough to win. Ultimately the Miners superb defense came closer than most expected in a 27-10 Longhorn victory that left UTEP excited for the rest of the season.
While the offense struggled and got its only touchdown in consolation time after the 2:00 timeout, the defense frustrated Texas all day long and at one point had the crowd of 102,025 booing the Longhorn offense and quarterback Arch Manning.
That was never going to be enough to win, but it was enough for UTEP to hold its head high as it heads back to El Paso at 1-2 with the knowledge it can compete with everyone left on its schedule.
