POWESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa – Two people were killed in a Saturday collision in Poweshiek County.

The Sheriff’s Office says a 911 call came in around 5:32 pm about an auto accident at the intersection of Highway 63 and Ewart Road. Deputies and state troopers went to the scene and found two vehicles had crashed.

The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office says the preliminary investigation indicates an eastbound vehicle on Ewart Road failed to yield to a stop sign and collided with a northbound vehicle on Highway 63. Both vehicles came to rest in the northeast ditch of the intersection.

The Sheriff’s Office says several occupants from both vehicles were injured and taken to various hospitals by ambulance and medical helicopter. Two of the injured died. Their names are not being released pending
