EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — An investigation is underway following the death of an inmate at the Vanderburgh County Jail.

We have learned the incident occurred during the early evening. After being found unresponsive in a booking area holding cell, the inmate was transported to a local hospital on Saturday, September 6.

Jail officers and on-site medical staff responded quickly, performing life-saving measures such as CPR and using an AED.

Emergency medical personnel from the Evansville Fire Department and AMR provided additional care.

The inmate was admitted to intensive care at the hospital but was later removed from life support on Friday, September 12.
