MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa -- Marshalltown fire crews were on scene for nearly seven hours at a house fire that spread to a neighboring business, eventually destroying both.
According to the Marshalltown Fire Department, crews were alerted to a structure fire at 116 North Center Street around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday. Authorities say the building was known to be a vacant and boarded up home, which was frequented by squatters.
Fire crews arrived on scene and found the two-story home with heavy fire involvement through the entire home. The house fire had also spread to an exposed business located directly to the south. The business had flames in the attic, which were rapidly spreading through the building.
Around 10 minutes after the crews arrived on scene and began, the roof of the home collapsed.
