TAMA COUNTY, Iowa -- One person was killed after a crash which resulted in a care fire in Tama County on Saturday.

According to the Tama County Sheriff's Office, around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, a deputy was driving on Highway 30 near the Exit 204 interchange when they noticed heavy smoke. After arriving on scene, the deputy found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

Additional assistance responded to the scene which was located south of the railroad tracks, in the 3400 block of N Avenue. Authorities say due to the area being remote and hard-to-reach it was initially unclear whether anyone was inside the vehicle.

The Tama Fire Department began efforts to knock down the flames and keep it from nearby dry bush. During this time, authorities located an elderly deceased male in a deep ditch wit
