Gabe Plascencia grew up in Oakland, where his family attended Raiders games with regularity.
Plascencia became fixated on a fellow who wore No. 11, his favorite number, and kicked the ball left-footed, his favored foot.
Gabe got a good, long look at the player. Sebastian Janikowski was Oakland’s kicker from 2000-2017, before Plascencia was born until he was ready to start high school.
“Banging field goals,” Plascencia said. “I thought that was so cool. I aspired to be like that one day.”
Plascencia realized his hopes in high school and, in fact, has become one of the nation’s most proficient college kickers.
