KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith rescued the offense from their awful effort in a 20-17 victory over the Chiefs on Sunday.
Before Smith made a 28-yard contested catch with 10:42 remaining in the game, the Eagles’ passing offense was reeling.
Entering the fourth quarter, quarterback Jalen Hurts only had 62 passing yards. The passing offense made no big plays other than Smith’s catch. If Smith doesn’t pull it down, the Eagles might have lost to Kansas City.
Smith came back to the ball and contorted his body to beat Chiefs All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie, setting up Philadelphia’s offense at Kansas City’s three-yard line. And four plays later, Hurts rushed for a one-yard, game-winning touchdown.
