BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has announced the temporary closure of a footbridge at Birdseye Hollow State Forest in Steuben County.
The bridge, located in the Sanford Lake Recreation Area, was closed immediately following an inspection that revealed significant structural deterioration. Officials say the closure is necessary to protect public safety while DEC staff evaluate the damage and develop a repair or replacement plan.
The closure temporarily restricts walking access between the Sanford Lake boat launch and Campsite 7 near Kettle Road. However, the entire recreation area remains accessible from Kettle Road and Round Lake Road.
