The National Hurricane Center said in an advisory Sept. 15 it is tracking a tropical wave over a portion of the Atlantic Ocean that is producing showers and thunderstorms.
The center's forecasters said the system will begin to move into a "more favorable" environment for development in the next couple of days, and a tropical depression is likely to form later this week as the system moves west-northwestward over the Atlantic between the coasts of Africa and the Caribbean.
The National Hurricane Center gives the system an 80% chance of formation through the next seven days. If it becomes a tropical storm, it will be named Gabrielle, which is next up in the 2025 name rotation .
