BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — Less than a month after the Mount Hope Bridge was resurfaced, more work was already needed.

Last week, the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority made repairs to a few square yards of the surface.

RITBA Executive Director Lori Caron Silveira said the new surface settled into several imperfections of the bridge deck, and there is also some discoloration in the asphalt from concrete dust.

"Every project has a punch list and bridges need constant maintenance," Caron Silveira said. "We're on top of it and appreciate the public's interest in this project."

The new surface is expected to last for about five years, according to the RITBA.

Re-decking the bridge, which was last done in 1986, is included in the agency's capital projects in the coming years.
