CANTON ‒ A 45-year-old Canton man is facing a murder and other charges in connection with the fatal shooting of John M. Lee, 48, at a homeless encampment on Sept. 10.

Canton police allege that Justen P. Ove, shot Lee in the head, causing his death.

Police were called shortly before 9 a.m. to the 1300 block of Wernet Court SW, behind Renner Plumbing Supply.

They arrived to find firefighters, who had extinguished a burning tent after responding the original call about the fire at the encampment. A firefighter called 911 to report that a man was found unresponsive at the scene.

Fire Department medics took Lee to Aultman Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:20 p.m.

Ove's case is scheduled for a status conference Sept. 17 in Canton Municipal Court. He is also charged with feloniou
