A Delta Air Lines plane heading from Miami International Airport to Boston Logan International Airport was forced to make an emergency landing after striking a flock of birds over the weekend.

In a statement sent to USA TODAY via email, Delta said the birds struck one of the aircraft’s two engines shortly after departing the airport on Saturday, Sept. 13, around 11:27 a.m. local time. The plane returned to the Miami airport shortly after takeoff.

The aircraft was assessed, and the flight landed in Boston two hours behind schedule.

There were no reported injuries from the strike.

Delta said it apologized for any inconvenience the incident may have caused.
