A post-game celebration in Milwaukee took an unexpected turn on Saturday night when MLB on Fox reporter Ken Rosenthal collided with Brewers team photographer Scott Paulus. The incident occurred during an on-air interview with Milwaukee player Andruw Monasterio, who had just secured a playoff spot for the team with a game-winning hit.
As Rosenthal conducted the interview, Monasterio's teammates celebrated by dousing him with a bucket of Gatorade. In an attempt to avoid getting soaked, Rosenthal stepped backward and accidentally knocked over Paulus, who was crouched behind him. While the collision was unintentional, Rosenthal's reaction drew significant attention on social media.
Instead of assisting Paulus, Rosenthal appeared to give him a disapproving look before walking away. Another staff member helped Paulus to his feet while Rosenthal resumed his interview with Monasterio. A clip of the incident quickly went viral, amassing over 13.2 million views on social media.
Critics on social media expressed their disapproval of Rosenthal's behavior. One user commented, "Dude, go over, reach down give him a hand and help the man up. Who the hell knocks someone over, shows no remorse, then shakes their head at him?!" Another user questioned, "How is this normal human behavior?" Many felt that Rosenthal should have offered an apology and assistance after the accident.
In response to the backlash, Rosenthal addressed the incident during a Monday morning episode of his YouTube show. He stated, "When I looked at the video, I was surprised at how upset I appeared. I was more confused than anything." He explained that the pressure of being on a live national broadcast made it difficult to react immediately.
Rosenthal expressed regret over the incident, saying, "I felt awful about what happened. After I went up to Scott, I apologized, I apologized profusely." He also mentioned that due to Fox's coverage of the American League playoffs, he may not return to Brewers games until the World Series. However, he added that if the Brewers make it to the Fall Classic, he looks forward to working with Paulus again and sharing a laugh about the incident.
