FORT VALLEY, Ga. — It's no surprise to consumers that food costs are rising at the grocery store and among the culprits is ground beef.

In June, ground beef reached the highest price recorded in the 41 years the federal government has tracked ground beef prices.

But as beef prices reach surge, a Central Georgia restaurant — the Railroad Cafe in Fort Valley — announced on Facebook they had to do something to address the increasing costs. As a result, they introduced a $2 burger upcharge, effective immediately.

"The beef prices have hit a record high and with the shortage of cattle there is no end in sight," the restaurant said. "This is a national crisis, not just Fort Valley."
