ROCKFORD, Ill. — There was a large first responder presence in downtown Rockford near the Rock River on Monday.

A firetruck parked on the State St. bridge on Monday morning for what appeared to be a water rescue. A ladder was lowered into the river from the bridge.

First responders also gathered on the riverbank near the Rockford Public Library with a stretcher. One first responder could be seen going into the river in diving gear. Police have closed the walking path behind the Luther Center.

This is a developing story. 13 WREX will continue to provide updates as they come.
