AUSTIN, Texas (KOSA) - Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath is speaking out after some public school teachers posted what he called “reprehensible” and “inappropriate” content on social media following the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

In a letter sent to school district leaders across the state, Morath said the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has received reports of educators sharing or reacting to Kirk’s death in ways that may violate the state’s Educators’ Code of Ethics.

“These comments do not reflect the vast majority of Texas teachers,” Morath wrote, stressing that most educators are dedicated professionals focused on serving the state’s 5.5 million students.

Now, TEA’s Educator Investigations Division is getting involved.
