Speaking at a memorial for Charlie Kirk held on Sunday, September 14, National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard noted that the MAGA activist and Turning Point USA founder was fatally shot a day before the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman who is now a far-right MAGA Republican, told attendees, "Charlie was killed on September 10. On September 11, we observed the 24th anniversary of the Islamist terror attack on our country, 24 years ago. Now , these events have something in common."
Gabbard continued, "They were both carried out by those who hold on to ideologies that cannot stand up to scrutiny and challenge, so they feel that their only recourse is to commit an act of violence to silence those who oppose them. And to intimidate and to terrorize others into silence. This is the definition of terrorism."

Gabbard also made a Kirk/9-11 analogy during an appearance on Fox News.
The national intelligence director's comments are drawing some responses on X, formerly Twitter.
Economic Times observed, "'They killed him because…': Tulsi Gabbard likens Kirk's killing to 9/11."
Some MAGA Republicans praised Gabbard. Greg Wooten tweeted, "Thank you Tulsi. That was the best tribute to Charlie I have read. He should have lived a very long life and inspired millions more for another half century. I don't think it's an overstatement to say Charlie was this generation's Martin Luther King."

However, @clickbaitwizard reminded Wooten that Kirk disparaged MLK, saying that he was "awful" and "not a good person."
Others, however, questioned Gabbard's Kirk/9-11 comparison, noting that a lot more people were killed on September 11, 2001.
X user Siper Kisakurek posted, "Is Tulsi's comparison valid or inflammatory? Both tragedies involve loss, but differ vastly in scale and context."
Kaylee McCarthy, an independent, tweeted, "Comparing Kirk and Trump to 9/11 is WILD. In no way shape or form would those two situations ever compare to a mass casualty terror attack on American soil. Of which thousands of families lost loved ones and first responders came from all over the country."
Another X user, Cydney Tanner, commented, "COMPARING CHARLIE KIRKS DEATH TO 9/11 ON THE EVE OF 9/11 WHEN WE’VE WITNESSED AN INSURRECTION OF OUR NATIONS CAPITOL Y’all need some help, for real for real."
