The city of Surrey has offered up a $250,000 reward fund to support the Surrey Police’s extortion investigation.

The reward fund is being hailed as the largest police reward in Canadian history and can be collected by anyone willing to work with police in providing information that can lead to charges and convictions in the recent string of extortion shootings.

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke and Surrey Police Service Chief Const. Norm Lipinski were scheduled to share more details at a news conference at city hall this morning.

City council approved the fund on Sept. 10. Police will be tasked with receiving tips and determining the amount of reward money to be paid, if appropriate. Payments will only be paid in cases where there is successful identification, prosecution and conviction.
