SEATTLE — The Puget Sound lowlands will be under a Fire Weather Watch on Tuesday due to hot, dry conditions that could spark wildfires.

The National Weather Service issued the watch from late Monday night through Tuesday evening for the northeast and southeast Puget Sound lowlands below 1,500 feet of elevation and the west slopes of the north and central Cascade Mountains above 1,500 feet of elevation.

A Fire Weather Watch is issued when the forecast reaches certain criteria for wind, humidity and fuel moisture. It's issued up to 72 hours before a weather event and precedes a Red Flag Warning, which is issued when the conditions are happening imminently or in the next 24 hours.
