LANSING, Iowa (KCRG) - Plans are moving forward on how to keep traffic moving between Iowa and Wisconsin in Lansing when the Mississippi River Bridge closes there.

It comes as crews work to build a new, updated bridge in Lansing between the two states. Construction will force the current bridge to close, but the new one won’t be ready until 2027.

The closure has been a concern for people and businesses in the area. The closest bridges to cross the Mississippi River will otherwise be located in the areas of La Crosse, Wisconsin or Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the Mississippi River Bridge at Lansing account detailed work is being done in the area as they prepare to launch a ferry between Lansing and Wisconsin.
