FOXBOROUGH - After Drake Maye scampered for a touchdown in the second half of the Patriots 33-27 win over the Miami Dolphins, he gave the ball to one of his offensive linemen to celebrate the score.
Michael Onwenu was taken aback.
The Patriots right guard approached Maye to pat him on the back, and the next thing you know. the Patriots quarterback handed him the football.
“I was running to congratulate him, and he said, ‘Here, I’m not going to celebrate,” Onwenu said Monday of the football exchange. “I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s dope.’ So I spiked it.”
Onwenu said he had never gotten to do that either through college (Michigan) or the pros since being drafted by the Patriots in 2020.
