Multiple children have been treated after tear gay was sprayed at a primary school in Germany.

A man with a ‘youthful appearance’ attacked at least 20 children in the stairwell of the school along Kleinfellerstraße, a street in west Hanau.

The man targeted the children at the end of the second recess at around 11.25am.

Six girls and 14 boys were treated for breathing problems after emergency services arrived at 12pm.

Two pupils were taken to the hospital, while firefighters ventilated the school building.

The police added: ‘Some students also reported hearing a bang, which suggests the use of a so-called pepper spray gun.’

The weapon shoots out a stream of pepper, which burns the eyes and throat.

Police officials did not specify which school the incident took place at.
