David Cone broadcasts Yankees games almost every single day and he knows their strengths and weaknesses as well as anyone.

And so the ex-Yankees great knows full well that their bullpen is the team’s biggest weakness at this point, but potentially also a source of great strength heading into October.

“There’s no question that the Yankees bullpen is the last piece of the puzzle [for a deep October run],” Cone said during the ESPN broadcast of the Yankees’ 6-4 loss to the Red Sox Sunday night. “They lead the majors in home runs by a lot. You look at how many runs they’ve scored collectively and how many they’ve given up collectively, their record would be a lot better if their bullpen was right.”
