An Azusa man has been arrested and charged with fatally shooting a passenger in a car and trying to kill the driver during a shooting in Irwindale last week, authorities confirmed Monday, Sept. 15.

Basilio Perez, 49, is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 29 at Pomona Superior Court on charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a person on probation.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office also charged him with the special circumstance allegation the murder happened in a drive-by shooting plus several other gun-related allegations.

The Sept. 9 shooting was random, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Christopher Oakley. The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is assisting Irwindale Police with the investigation.
