Former NBA center Jason Collins is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor, his family announced on Thursday.

“NBA Ambassador and 13-year NBA veteran Jason Collins is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumor,” the NBA said in a statement. “Jason and his family welcome your support and prayers and kindly ask for privacy as they dedicate their attention to Jason’s health and well-being.

Collins had a 13-year career in the NBA, which he began and concluded with the Nets. He also spent time with the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Memphis Grizzles, Minnesota Timberwolves and Washington Wizards.

Collins came out as gay in 2013, becoming the first publicly out player active in one of the four main North American sports leagues.
