The Good Samaritan Loveland Village celebrated its eight centenarians Monday with a special lunch coinciding with Respect the Aged Day, a Japanese holiday established after World War II to recognize the country’s eldest citizens.

The lunch, funded by a grant meant to highlight other cultures for senior residents, is both an effort to recognize the handful of residents older than 100 currently living at Good Samaritan and expose all of the residents to different cultures.

Serving a variety of sushi, largely adjusted for an American palate, along with matcha tea, glazed salmon and noodles, and other Japanese-inspired dishes, the lunch could not provide the traditional honor given to centenarians in Japan, a silver sake cup, but did provide each of the seven attendees with an orchid and an
