WASHINGTON — The attorney for a now-deported Venezuelan man says records of his arrest should be expunged after federal prosecutors asked a judge earlier this month to dismiss the case entirely.
Christian Enrique Carias-Torres was charged on Aug. 18 with assaulting an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer who allegedly suffered a head injury during his arrest outside a Northwest DC coffee shop. Carias-Torres, who was working at the time as a food delivery driver, was among the first defendants charged with assaulting federal officers deployed to D.C. as part of President Donald Trump’s surge in the city. His case received particular attention because a video of his arrest by masked ICE officers was captured by the Washington Post .
