GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island mother is facing felony child abuse charges after authorities say she was not properly caring for them.

Brandi Lopez, 39, is charged with eight counts of felony child abuse. One charge for each of her eight children, ranging from ages two to 12.

According to the arrest affidavit, Grand Island Police responded to a welfare check last week after a man told officers that he was attempting to help out Lopez.

Police said Lopez and her kids were living in an RV in a driveway with no running water.

The man, a neighbor of Lopez, told police he was helping by taking care of the kids, feeding them and proving them housing and transportation to school.

The man said he was unaware of Lopez’s whereabouts and she would leave without communicating.
