Lansing — Hundreds of people gathered outside the state Capitol late Monday afternoon to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk, days after he was assassinated on the Utah Valley University campus.

The rally followed several gatherings held across Michigan over the weekend for the founder of Turning Point USA and an outspoken leader in President Donald Trump's MAGA movement.

Brendan Schryer of St. Johns sat in the shade on the Capitol lawn ahead of the start of the rally, wearing a white T-shirt with the word "Freedom" written on it, similar to the one Kirk was wearing when he was shot and killed Wednesday. He was there to "support the cause that Charlie was behind," Schryer said.
