NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - A proposal to turn a stretch of a major one-way street into a two-way street was shot down by the New Haven’s Traffic Authority.

The idea would turn a three-block stretch of Chapel Street, from College Street to York Street, into two-way traffic.

Earlier this spring, the city had signs out alerting drivers of the change.

The city’s Traffic Authority eventually voted against the plan, but the mayor says they’re not giving up.

“They had some questions about firetrucks and turning radius. Chief Alston feels comfortable about those things, but I think we can work to present that information to them,” said Mayor Justin Elicker, (D), New Haven.
