A South Carolina judge has ruled death row inmate Steven Bixby competent for execution.

Eighth Circuit Court Judge R. Scott Sprouse signed the order on Sept. 12, according to South Carolina Supreme Court documents. Last month, attorneys argued during a two-day competency hearing before Sprouse that Bixby's anti-government belief system derived from mental illness barred him from being executed and those beliefs contributed to his struggles to see eye-to-eye with his attorneys throughout his legal process.
