NEW ORLEANS — State officials and the Pentagon are still weighing whether to deploy National Guard troops to help combat crime in Louisiana cities, including New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
This comes as President Trump signed an order on Monday to send National Guard troops into Memphis to combat crime in the city. The President announced the move with Tennessee’s Republican Governor Bill Lee by his side in the Oval Office.
National Guard troops are no strangers to New Orleans. They helped rescue the city after Hurricane Katrina 20 years ago.
Earlier this year, the Guard manned checkpoints in the French Quarter during the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras following the deadly New Year's terror attack on Bourbon Street.
