INDIANAPOLIS — Thieves are targeting the government’s food assistance program, SNAP , leaving some Hoosier families hungry. Two Indianapolis women reported their monthly benefits were loaded, as usual, at midnight on Sept. 13.

The next day, everything was gone.

“I went to the little Indy Fresh Market that’s around the corner. I had a whole cart full of stuff,” Ericka Lollis said. “I got up to the register, it declined twice. So I was like, I don’t know what’s going on. I called my card. When I called my card, it was zero, the balance was zero. I listened to the last 10 transactions, and they just wiped me out.”

Lollis had $916.22 stolen from her EBT account.

She discovered it was all spent between 3:05-3:11 a.m. at markets in New Jersey and Philadelphia.
