PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) - Nearly 2,000 New York prison guards were fired after an illegal strike earlier this year. Now, severe staffing shortages are proving costly for facilities in our region, like the Clinton County Jail.
More and more inmates are starting to make their way to state prisons after spending months in county jails across New York.
Clinton County Sheriff Dave Favro said the backlog has strained the jail and taxpayers.
“Our medical budget is exhausted. Our overtime budget is exhausted,” Favro said.
