In a break from the MCU ’s continuity, Marvel has just drastically changed a key bit of its lore. Vibranium is one of the essential elements in the Marvel Universe, be it in the comics or on-screen. Now, in a preview for Ultimate Black Panther #20, Marvel fundamentally alters Vibranium’s backstory , giving it a new and sinister sheen.

Ultimate Black Panther #20 will be written by Bryan Edward Hill and drawn by Stefano Caselli. Bast recounts Vibranium’s history: it was created by an ancient alien race, and then sent into the stars. Numerous civilizations have used Vibranium, and Wakanda is but the latest. Furthermore, the creators of Vibranium are soon returning, which could spell disaster.
