FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Patients with cancer now have a new option.

The new Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at the Fairfield Cancer Center, a Care Partner of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), has the state's first ETHOS machine. It provides adaptive radiation therapy allowing doctors to give more precise radiation therapy to tumors and shield surrounding tissues.

Jim Kempf, 71, of Simsbury wasn't about to let a prostate cancer diagnosis slow down his active lifestyle.

"I played golf yesterday," he said. "I took a 25 mile bike ride today. Everything's back to what I normally would do."

Kempf has a family history of prostate cancer and was diagnosed with a PSA blood test.
