LANSING, Mich. — A new campaign in Michigan aims to raise awareness about the risks children face when online.

'Opening the Door' is a statewide effort that aims to combat online predators by educating families. It kicked off with a commercial released last week, ahead of the official launch on Monday.

“The Opening the Door campaign is a campaign that we are starting through MSP to help parents and kids learn more about protecting themselves through social media from online predators,” explained Rene Gonzalez, a lieutenant with Michigan State Police. He said safety starts when parents and children become vigilant.
