SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - According to folklore, you can predict winter weather with nothing more than a persimmon seed. And you may not like what the seeds predict for our winter.

When you open the seeds this year, you will likely see a spoon. Folklore claims the spoon means lots of snow or lots of shoveling.

You may also see knives and forks. A knife means a cold winter or a frigid winter. A fork means a milder winter and fluffy snow.

While wild, ripe, local persimmon seeds are certainly a fun way to see how the upcoming winter might unfold, it’s not the only way. The Farmer’s Almanac says the number of foggy days in August should equal the number of snowy days for the winter.
