San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said starting left guard Ben Bartch will be “out for a while” with a high-ankle sprain. He’s not the only lineman banged up. Backup swing tackle Spencer Burford hurt his knee and is day-to-day. The team will look to see if Burford’s injury heals on its own.
Unfortunately for Bartch, you could see this injury coming a mile away. He hasn’t shown the ability to remain healthy throughout his career. That didn’t change in limited action last season with the 49ers, nor did it in the preseason.
The good news is rookie Connor Colby looked like he belonged after filling in for Bartch on Sunday. Shanahan spoke positively about Colby’s debut:
“I’ve loved how he’s been here so far. I thought he came in that game early — I think it was late first quarter
