Owen Cooper made a lasting impact at this year’s Emmys, not only because he is the youngest Emmy winner ever, but also for leaving a global audience inspired by his acceptance speech.

The 15-year-old took home the award for outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie for his performance in Netflix’s drama Adolescence.

The psychological crime drama series, created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham and directed by Philip Barantini, centres on a 13-year-old schoolboy, Jamie Miller (Cooper), who is arrested after the murder of a girl at his school.

After Cooper was announced as a winner, he took to the stage with an inspiring message to those who might be afraid to try something new.

“Standing on stage, wow, it’s just so surreal,” he said.
