Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has declared that Wayne Rooney was amongst the most dedicated players he's ever shared a pitch with.

The ex-England international's praise directly contradicts recent criticism from NFL icon Tom Brady , who questioned Rooney's work ethic during the ex-England striker's brief stint at Birmingham City .

Rooney was dismissed by Birmingham , where Brady holds a part-ownership stake, following a calamitous 83-day tenure that ended in January 2024. The seven-time Super Bowl winner had expressed doubts about Rooney's dedication in a documentary chronicling Brady's involvement with the Midlands club.
