ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - A groundbreaking ceremony kicked off construction of the new Rock Island High School Aquatic Center on Monday.

The center will feature an eight-lane competition pool, a deep end for diving, and bleachers for over 200 spectators. This comes after Rocky swimmers and divers used Augustana College’s pool, but now they will have a facility of their own.

Rock Island swim coach, Rebecca Brown, said the new facility will give athletes amenities they haven’t experienced before.

“We practice 7:15 to 9:15 at night and only if that works for Augie,” Brown said. “There are some times where we can’t even have access to the pool.”
