HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Holyoke voters will head to the polls Tuesday for preliminary elections in Wards 1 and 5, narrowing the field ahead of the city’s municipal election.

City Clerk Brenna Murphy Leary announced that the Ward 1 City Council race will feature incumbent Jenny Rivera and challengers Victor Machado and Jose R. Candelario.

In Ward 5, three newcomers, Jens M. Michaelsen, James Alan Rossmeisl, and Aida Luz Oquendo Oquendo, are competing for a School Committee seat. Incumbent John G. Whelihan is not seeking re-election.

The top two vote-getters in each of these preliminary races will advance to the municipal election in November.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations: • Ward 1, Precinct A: Rosary Towers, 21 Bowers St. • Ward 1, Precinct B:
