HAYNESVILLE, La. – A Haynesville man who shot himself after police say he shot and killed his estranged wife earlier this summer during a domestic dispute has recovered and is now being held behind bars.
Shamarcus Lewis, 44, is charged second-degree murder for the July shooting death of Rochelle Lewis, 48, Haynesville Police Chief Anthony Smith confirmed.
Shamarcus Lewis had been hospitalized until his release last month to the Claiborne Parish Detention Center. But he's since been moved to Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel "for safety and security reasons," Smith said.
He's also still being treated for vision problems associated with the self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Smith said.
