BOSSIER CITY, La. – A woman is dead, a man is in critical condition, and two Bossier City police officers are recovering after a domestic violence standoff and shooting on Sunday. It happened at the Villaggio Apartments in the 5200 block of Venecia Drive about 12:30 p.m.

Authorities said a man told his family he was suicidal and barricaded himself inside an apartment with his wife. He reportedly said he would shoot anyone who came through the door.

While police were trying to detain the man, authorities say two officers were shot by the suspect. Their injuries are said to be non-life-threatening. Police say the man shot and killed his wife then turned the gun on himself. He's listed in critical condition.

Police say the man had a history of mental illness.
