The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has reported an increase in job and text scams across the United States in 2025. According to FTC data, over 235,000 text message scams have been reported in the first half of the year, leading to around $342 million in losses.

In the first quarter of 2025, there were approximately 29,000 reports of job or employment-related tech scams, the FTC said. These scams often involve requests for personal or financial information with the intent of stealing money or identities.

“There’s always going to be this ask that you reply with personal information or financial information to pay you,” the FTC said. “What the scammer really wants is to steal your money or your identity.”
