Pierre Poilievre arrived in the House of Commons on Monday apologizing for being late for the current session. The Conservative leader made light of the fact that he lost his Ottawa-area seat in April’s election, saying he was held back from being in meetings.

“My mother taught me never to be late, so please forgive me for my late arrival to this session. I had some meetings with extremely important people in east central Alberta, after which I was honoured to be elected by the great people of Battle River—Crowfoot,” Poilievre said.

Poilievre was serious and calm, but not combative as he questioned Prime Minister Mark Carney during Question Period and signalled the direction he and his party will be taking during the fall sitting.
