Gary's oldest church will make history by appointing its first-ever female pastor.
First Baptist will install Nicole P. Guns as its new leader the weekend of October 17th through 19th. The sixth-generation ordained minister will become the second Black woman to serve as the pastor of a Baptist church in the state of Indiana.
She's a nurse by trade and a lifelong Virginian who said her path to lead a religious institution in Gary was “literally and truly a God thing.”
“Sometimes God laughs at our plans,” said Guns. “I knew staying in Virginia would be easier due to the long legacy of faith leaders in my family, which include my father, grandfather, grandmother and others."
