Testimony is underway in the trial of a Lorton man accused of shooting his girlfriend and then

driving her to a hospital, where she died.

Prosecutors say it’s a case of murder, but the defendant is hoping to convince the jury his girlfriend died by suicide.

Just before midnight on April 18, 2024, police rushed to Mt. Vernon hospital after a man brought his critically wounded girlfriend into the emergency room. Alison Kate LaPorta, 38, was pronounced dead, suffering from a single gunshot to her stomach.
